Agrobiodiversity Training

Agrobiodiversity Training Conducted at 3 villages in Senapati District, Manipur

The Native Foodscape Foundation, in partnership with the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur, is actively engaged in the research initiative titled "Mainstreaming Agrobiodiversity Conservation for Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods." This project, funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) through the G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, is led by Dr. Adani Azhoni, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at NIT Manipur (Principal Investigator), alongside Dr. Chubbamenla Jamir, Founder-Director of Native Foodscape, and Dr. Mala Narang as Co-Principal Investigators.

As part of this ongoing initiative, a training programme on Beekeeping, Floriculture, and Fruit Orchards commenced on 4th October 2025 at Rabunamai village, Senapati District, Manipur. Additional sessions were subsequently held at Shajouba Village on 10th October 2025 and Pudunamai Village on 11th October 2025. Participation levels were robust, with 25 attendees at Rabunamai, 60 at Shajouba, and 50 at Pudunamai, comprising farmers, members of women's groups, and young entrepreneurs from neighboring communities.

Dr. Sao Tunyi, Founder of Providence Garden, Nagaland, served as the resource person for beekeeping and fruit orchard management, while Ms. ChokhoneKrechina, Founder and CEO of Dianthe Private Limited, Manipur, facilitated the floriculture training.

Engagement among participants has been notably high, with many expressing interest in future skill development sessions at Providence Garden in Phek District, Nagaland, aiming to further enhance their expertise in honey harvesting and fruit orchard grafting. This series of trainings represents a significant advancement in equipping local farmers and youth with climate-resilient agricultural practices, thereby promoting both agrobiodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods across the hill regions. Ultimately, these programmes are meticulously designed to provide rural stakeholders with practical knowledge and skills that foster climate adaptation, environmental stewardship, and long-term economic sustainability.
